The Hindi Urdu Flagship recently hosted eminent Hindi scholar Harish Trivedi from the University of Delhi. As part of his visit, Trivedi conducted a roundtable discussion on issues of translation with members of the UT community, including a number of HUF students and faculty.

HUF to celebrate new graduates

The Hindi Urdu Flagship is hosting a celebration to honor the HUF scholars who have graduated since last May. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 6:00pm in the HUF center. All HUF students, alumni, faculty, staff, and teaching assistants are welcome to attend.

Famed Urdu broadcaster Abul Hasan Naghmi visits HUF

On Tuesday, April 19th, the Hindi Urdu Flagship hosted a talk by famed Pakistani radio broadcaster Abul Hasan Naghmi. The talk, entitled Josh Malihabadi: Devotion and Doubt, was a wonderful exploration of Naghmi’s personal recollections of Malihabadi and his contribution to Urdu literature and culture.

HUF Lecturer nominated for Language Teaching Award

Shahnaz Hassan, the Hindi Urdu Flagship’s principal lecturer in Urdu, has been nominated for the first-ever Texas Foreign Language Teaching Excellence Award. Students submitted nominations late last fall based on teachers’ commitment, knowledge, passion, and ability to challenge. The award program is an initiative of the Texas Language Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
