Critical Language Scholarship alumna to host informal Q&A

Emily Brandt, UT alumna and 2012 Critical Language Scholarship Ambassador, will host an informal Q&A session for HUF students interested in the CLS program on Thursday, November 3 at 6:30pm over coffee at the Starbucks on 24th St . The Critical Language Scholarship, a program of the United States Department of State, will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages for summer 2012.

HUF revamps Hindi slideshow series

The Hindi Urdu Flagship has just relaunched Dr. Jishnu Shankar‘s Hindi slideshow series. Now named Presenting Hindi, the series features a redesigned interface and new presentations (with more to come). The series covers a broad range of fundamental grammatical features and ‘topic-specific’ language categories such as health, economics, and politics. Each presentation makes use of real-world Hindi cultivated from current Hindi periodicals and print advertising; a number also incorporate video material from Bollywood films and Indian television.

National Boren Director to discuss scholarships with HUF students

The Hindi Urdu Flagship is excited to host the Chris Powers, the National Boren Director, from 12-1pm on Wednesday, November 2nd in CBA 4.328. In a session exclusively for Flagship students, Powers will discuss the prestigious Boren Scholarship Program and answer any questions pertaining to HUF students in particular.

HUF to celebrate family weekend

In conjunction with UT’s Family Weekend, the Hindi Urdu Flagship is hosting a luncheon Saturday, October 22nd in the main HUF center (HRH 3.102). HUF students are encouraged to bring their parents to meet HUF faculty, staff, and students. As this is a catered lunch, RSVPs are required as soon as possible.

Prestigious scholarship program recruits HUF students

Hindi Urdu Flagship students will have an opportunity this week to meet with a representative for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program.There will be two sessions with the CLS representative, Andrea Turpin. The HUF sponsored session will be this Friday, October 14th at 11am in Parlin 301. An earlier session will be held today (Thursday, October 13th) at 4pm in WMB 6.146.

Seminar on Bengali Cinema

Hindi Urdu Flagship students are invited to attend a talk on Bengali cinema by Dr. Shohini Ghosh this Monday, October 17th at 12pm in the Meyerson Conference Room (WCH 4.118). Ghosh is the Zaki Hussain Professor of Media at the AJK Mass Communication Research Center. She is an essayist on popular culture and a documentary filmmaker.
