HUF faculty and staff gathered Wednesday afternoon to celebrate and bid farewell to the 2010-11 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs). Hajra Butt, Urvashi Kuhad, and Mohammed Rukan helped teach Urdu, Hindi, and Bengali respectively during their 9-month stay at UT Austin. HUF Director Rupert Snell presented each FLTA with a certificate acknowledging their contributions to language teaching at the university. HUF faculty including Syed Akbar Hyder and Shahnaz Hasan gave speeches thanking the FLTAs for their work throughout the year.

Sponsored by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and administered by the Institute of International Education, the Fulbright FLTAs are an incredibly valuable learning resource for HUF students. The Hindi and Urdu teaching assistants not only provide administrative support for HUF courses, but also conduct one-on-one tutoring and conversation practice for first- and second-year HUF students.
