New multimedia introduction to Braj Bhasha available

HUF Director, Rupert Snell, has just compiled a new introduction to literary Braj Bhasha aptly titled Braj in Brief. Braj Bhasha was a literary dialect of Hindi widely used for composing poetry from roughly the 16th century until the 19th. The main features of the language are introduced (with comparisons to their Modern Standard Hindi equivalents) through a selection of couplets by the early 18th-century poet Vrind.

Audio clips accompany each couplet, allowing one to get a feel for the rhythm of the language. Use of Adobe Reader will provide access to the embedded audio.

Braj in Brief can be accessed here.
