HUF hosts national symposium on Hindi
In honor of Asian Studies professor Herman van Olphen and his long-serving career in Hindi pedagogy, HUF hosted a symposium entitled Hindi in Texas and Beyond on Saturday, April 10 in the Meyerson Conference Room. Students, colleagues, family celebrate the career of Herman van Olphen
Former and current students, colleagues, and friends gathered Friday, April 9 to commemorate the life and career of HUF director Herman van Olphen. Ishita Paul wins 2010 HUF Essay Contest
Ishita Paul from the 2008 HUF cohort is the winner of the 2010 HUF essay contest. Her essay, entitled “दक्षिण एशिया: सादगी भें पेचीदगी”, is posed as a response to the prompt “What all Americans should know about South Asia”.
Summer Hindi-Urdu intensive to be offered for high school & undergraduate students
Startalk-Siphur 2010, targeted for high school and undergraduate students, will offer a three-week summer intensive language program from June 21 to July 9. Accepted students will receive a $1,600 scholarship to pay for tuition and room & board. Participants receive two college credits upon completion of the program.
DLI representative to meet with potential Urdu teachers
Dr. Jack Franke, Dean, Emerging Languages Task Force, Defense Language Institute (DLIFLC), Monterey, CAL, will be at the Hindi Urdu Flagship, HRH 3.102, on Friday, January 29, 2-3PM. He would like to speak to native and near-native speakers of Urdu.
