HUF bids farewell to 2010-11 Fulbright Teaching Assistants
HUF faculty and staff gathered Wednesday afternoon to celebrate and bid farewell to the 2010-11 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs). Hajra Butt, Urvashi Kuhad, and Mohammed Rukan helped teach Urdu, Hindi, and Bengali respectively during their 9-month stay at UT Austin.
K-12 Hindi-Urdu students visit HUF

The Hindi Urdu Flagship recently hosted eminent Hindi scholar Harish Trivedi from the University of Delhi. As part of his visit, Trivedi conducted a roundtable discussion on issues of translation with members of the UT community, including a number of HUF students and faculty.
HUF Director presents research on autobiographical writing in Hindi
On Feb 25th, HUF Director Rupert Snell presented his recent work on the diverse genre of autobiographical writing in Hindi. The talk, entitled Autobiography is Another Story: “Lives” in Hindi, featured audio recordings of a number of Hindi Urdu Flagship students, teaching assistants, and faculty reading from a wide variety of Hindi autobiographies.
New multimedia introduction to Braj Bhasha available
HUF Director, Rupert Snell, has just compiled a new introduction to literary Braj Bhasha aptly titled Braj in Brief. The main features of the language are introduced (with comparisons to their Modern Standard Hindi equivalents) through a selection of couplets by the early 18th-century poet Vrind.
HUF hosts popular seminar on Urdu language politics
Students and faculty packed the Meyerson Conference Room to hear Kavita Datla’s wonderful presentation on Urdu language politics in early 20th century Hyderabad. Datla’s talk provided a nuanced take on the political struggles over India’s multiple linguistic traditions and enlisted a lively and informative question and answer session

In a sunny courtyard of the UT six-pack, HUF students and staff joined other UT programs to promote undergraduate registration for foreign language course.
HUF hosts national symposium on Hindi
In honor of Asian Studies professor Herman van Olphen and his long-serving career in Hindi pedagogy, HUF hosted a symposium entitled Hindi in Texas and Beyond on Saturday, April 10 in the Meyerson Conference Room.
