HUF student wins prestigious award for Urdu study

Ramu Kharel, a fourth-year HUF student, has just been awarded the prestigious Majaz Literary Award by the Aligarh University Alumni Association for his accomplishments in Urdu language and literature scholarship as an undergraduate in the Hindi Urdu Flagship program. The award was the result of a large-scale national competition seeking exceptional undergraduate work in Urdu studies.

A new year begins for the HUF family

Students, faculty, and staff began a new academic year with an in-depth orientation session on August 23, 2010. With the 2007 cohort recently returned from HUF’s Year in India, students from each stage of the four-year HUF curriculum were present in one room for the first-time ever.

The new 2010 HUF cohort joined faculty and staff for a welcome brunch August 22 at the Hindi Urdu Resource Center. HUF Director, Rupert Snell, gave our new students a warm welcome, introducing them to faculty, staff, and HUF’s favorite samosa caterer.

Ishita Paul wins 2010 HUF Essay Contest

Ishita Paul from the 2008 HUF cohort is the winner of the 2010 HUF essay contest. Her essay, entitled “दक्षिण एशिया: सादगी भें पेचीदगी”, is posed as a response to the prompt “What all Americans should know about South Asia”.
